Ford Motor Company Plant
Evaluation and Analysis
Richmond, CA
|
Designed by noted architect Albert
Kahn in 1930, this 500,000-square-foot plant building was being considered for
rehabilitation and adaptive reuse. Interactive Resources provided a
comprehensive analysis of the condition of the structure and its potential for
adaptive reuse. The firm provided a Survey and Report on the Architectural and
Structural Condition of the Ford Plant (1982), a Rehabilitation Feasibility
Study (1983), and a Structural Engineering Review of Masonry Problems at the
South Wall (1987). Interactive Resources also prepared an Historic Structure
Report and Nomination form for inclusion on the National Register of Historic
Places (1988).
Following the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Interactive Resources was called upon
to investigate the seismic safety of the building. The firm prepared a
post-earthquake evaluation of the structure which determined that the building
was unsafe for occupancy, and prepared a report for the City of Richmond
Redevelopment Agency that included estimated repair costs to accompany a FEMA
grant application.
