Berkeley Refuse Center
Master Plan and Facility Design
Berkeley, CA
|
Interactive Resources was retained to prepare a long-range master plan, initial
phase site plan and to design a 3,750-square-foot Administration/Assembly
Building as well as a 3,600-square-foot addition to the Vehicle Maintenance
Facilities. Relocation and/or redesign of various "yard" functions was required
to accommodate the large number of vehicles being moved to the project site.
The City assumed operation of the existing facilities and moved the entire
refuse collection and vehicle maintenance functions to the site at Second and
Harrison Streets in Berkeley.
Construction was completed in 1991 for the additions, which include
administrative and office space, a large-truck vehicle maintenance facility,
large vehicle washing areas, paved public, employee and truck parking, security
fencing and lighting. The maintenance functions included lubrication and
preventive maintenance, chassis and general tire work, welding, shop offices,
mechanics lockers, and inspection and repair bays.
