Commandant's House
Benicia Arsenal
Benicia, CA
|
Interactive Resources provided a comprehensive assessment of the historic,
architectural, and structural features of the Commandant's House at the Benicia
Arsenal. The brick masonry structure was originally built in 1860, and is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The assessment included
development of floor and building plans for the entire structure, a discussion
of existing conditions, and recommendations for work required upgrading the
structure and the historic interiors. Recommendations were made in accordance
with the State Historic Building Code.
Since 1977, the Commandant's House had been occupied by a commercial
restaurant, and had suffered from misuse and poor maintenance. The kitchen area
was is such bad condition that the report recommended complete removal and
replacement of all surfaces and equipment.
