Interactive Resources provided site
planning and design services for this 45,000 square-foot EPA laboratory and
office building planned at the University of California Richmond Field
Station. The design for this laboratory and administrative building had
to meet very tight budget limitations. As designed, the tilt-up building
is ornamented through the use of reveals and indentations in the tilt-up
panels, and sculpting to visually break up the scale of the building to match
nearby residences. Costs were further minimized by the use of
straightforward industrial materials.
Our architects designed this high-tech building with a unique roof windscreen
that works with the predominant San Francisco Bay wind patterns and vents
noxious fumes from more than forty fume hoods away from the surrounding
residential area. The layout of the building's offices takes advantage of
both views and solar access, and the building includes trellis-covered
walkways.
