Arts and Industry Building, San Francisco State University
Seismic Evaluation & Upgrade
San Francisco, CA
|
Interactive Resources was retained by the Trustees of the California State
University to perform an evaluation of the Arts and Industry Building on their
San Francisco campus, according to the guidelines established by the California
State University Seismic Review Board. The evaluation included field
observations, construction document review and structural analysis of the
existing building, utilizing modern approaches to earthquake safety.
Originally constructed in 1951, the 47,200 square foot Arts and Industry
Building is a T-shaped reinforced non-ductile concrete shear structure. A
two-story 25,145 square foot addition was constructed in 1958. Interactive
Resources subsequently prepared plans and specifications for the seismic
upgrade of both structures.
Construction on the original T-shaped structure was initiated in the summer of
1998, and was completed in January 1999.
