Building #3 Roof Replacement
Menlo Park, CA
|
As part of an indefinite quantity
contract for repairs and alterations with the U.S. General Services
Administration, this project provided a design for a new single-ply membrane
roofing system for this 42,000 square foot roof on a two-story laboratory
building at the U.S. Geological Survey Campus.
The failed roofing system on this dead-level roof had been leaking into the
building for several years, despite numerous remedial repair attempts. The
solution incorporated a Hypalon (CSPE) single-ply membrane over tapered rigid
insulation roofing system, selected to provide positive drainage and facilitate
flashing of the numerous mechanical equipment penetrations. The tapered
insulation system also increased overall building thermal performance.
Selection of a single-ply system minimized disruption to the building, which
was fully occupied during construction.
The new roof design needed to be carefully detailed to accommodate existing
mechanical equipment and the route new drain lines through existing laboratory
spaces.
