Alvarado Park
Bridge and Wall Repair
Richmond, CA
|
The historic stone bridge and stone walls lining Wildcat Creek in Alvarado Park
(operated by the East Bay Regional Park District) were designed and built as a
Work Projects Administration (WPA) project. The stone walls were severely
damaged during storms, and the foundations of the stone bridge were threatened
by rapid erosion of the streambed and banks.
Interactive Resources provided emergency evaluation and repair design for the
stone walls and bridge as part of an overall stream restoration, which included
returning the stream to its natural state and allowing for upstream fish
migrations while protecting the valuable historic resource of the bridge and
walls. Several new walls were constructed utilizing modern materials and
construction techniques, while preserving the WPA-era stonework.
