Interactive Resources was engaged by Zeneca Ag Products, Inc. to provide
architectural, mechanical, electrical, landscape, and cost estimating services
for this seismic retrofit and accessibility upgrade project.
Building 196 is an office and testing/research laboratory building. It is a
three-story rectangular building, approximately 215 feet by 62 feet in plan.
The structure has story heights of 14 feet and an overall building height of 58
feet. The building is connected to a cafeteria building and a separate
laboratory building.
The building was designed and built in the 1970’s. The floor and roof
construction is concrete pan joist system supported by concrete girders and
columns. The lateral load carrying systems are combination of CMU and concrete
shear walls of various thicknesses. The concrete shear walls are 8 inches thick
and CMU walls are 6 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches thick. The foundation
system consists of spread footings supporting the columns and small continuous
footings below the walls. The exterior cladding is plaster on the concrete
structure.
