Richmond Swim Center
Roof Structure
Richmond, CA

The Richmond Swim Center (located at JFK High School) project called for the
design of a roof structure over an existing outdoor swimming pool as well as a
new indoor children's pool, locker rooms, classrooms and administration
facilities.
Interactive Resources, working with the architecture firm Hansen Murakami
Eshima, provided structural engineering services for the roof structure.
The roof is supported by curved, glued-laminated beams spanning 130 feet, which
constitutes one of the largest applications in the Bay Area. Close
proximity to a nearby segment of the Hayward Fault and the possibility of a
relatively large number of building users necessitated analysis of the
structure for earthquake loads exceeding the minimum specified in the building
code.
