Structural and Seismic Upgrade
Brentwood, CA
|
This 10,000 square-foot wood-framed building in historic downtown Brentwood
houses office and conference spaces as well as public walk-in areas for City
services. The City requested that Interactive Resources review the
building, provide a lateral analysis and a voluntary seismic upgrade to the
single-story structure.
Deteriorated metal decking over the existing timber trusses was replaced with a
plywood diaphragm, 2x4 stiffeners and a new roof. Plywood shear walls
were added, and a braced structural steel frame was added behind the existing
storefront windows. Collector elements were provided throughout the
building and new foundations were added where required at shear walls and the
braced frame.
