Structural Design and Seismic Strengthening

The owners of this 3-story wood framed house in Marin wanted to add a 900
square-foot addition to their home. Beyond that, they requested
Interactive Resources to design a voluntary seismic strengthening for the
existing 3,000 square foot portion of their house.
Interactive Resources designed structural diaphragms at the new addition with a
series of collectors designed to transfer loads from the older structure to the
new. Plywood shear walls were added throughout the house as well as
strengthening of existing foundations.
