North County Detention Facility Reroof
County of Sonoma

The 22,500 square foot existing roof at the support services building at the
North County Detention Facility, originally constructed circa 1985, was nearing
the end of its expected life cycle and required replacement. In addition, the
design of the rooftop mechanical system contributed to excessive and difficult
maintenance requirements due to awkward duct placement, substandard mechanical
equipment supports, and inadequate penetration detailing. Roof types include
primarily low-slope built-up roof with asphalt shingles at the clerestory roof.
The reroofing design prepared by Interactive resources, in conjunction with
Lefler Engineering, addressed the deficiencies as required to provide a
durable, readily maintainable roof system. Features include improved thermal
performance (due to the addition of 1.5 inches of rigid polyisocyanurate
insulation), prefinished metal flashings, and penetration details and
mechanical equipment platforms conforming to NRCA standards.
