South Gym Solar Photovoltaic Array

Interactive Resources was retained by Chevron Energy Solutions to provide structural engineering design prior to photovoltaic system installation to be located on the existing roof of the South Gym. Interactive Resources performed design services that included verification that the existing framing can support the array. These design services included preparation of structural calculations as necessary to verify that the local framing of the existing structure can support the proposed array, preparation of structural calculations for the anchorage of a ground mounted inverter, and construction of a concrete pad. The design portion also included preparation of structural drawings showing the location and details for the inverter anchorage, responding to code enforcement agency (DSA) comments, including one site visit to DSA for back check and provided Construction Administration services including one site visit to respond to field questions, and to review the shop drawings.

The other design element included the anchorage of the array and the preparation of construction documents for submittal to the Division of the State Architect (DSA). These design services included preparation of structural calculations as required to anchor the array to the existing structure. Wind loads were in accordance with the provisions of ASCE 7 and as augmented by the wind tunnel tests. Seismic loads were in accordance with the provisions of the California Building Code (CBC). Structural drawings showing the location and details for anchoring the array to the existing roof were also prepared. Interactive Resources responded to code enforcement agency comments, including one site visit to DSA for back check and provided Construction Administration services including one site visit to response to field questions and to review the shop drawings.
