Covered Van Accessible Parking Space Pacific Gas and Electric Company Headquarters San Francisco, CA

Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s headquarters building in San Francisco was required to provide a covered van accessibility parking space to compliment the covered parking spaces in the underground garage. The height clearances in the garage did not allow access for a full-size van, so an exterior solution was required. Placing the single covered parking space outside the high-rise building created aesthetic and technical difficulties. The site had limited amounts of site in which to locate the parking space.

Interactive Resources was tasked with the difficult problem of where and how to locate the covered parking space. The solution was a dramatic curved metal structure over an area carved from a previous driveway and exterior planter. It involved reconstructing the paving over a sensitive work area; rebuilding a granite planter; protecting the space from an adjacent child care playground and coordinating traffic flow from the building’s underground garage.
