Interactive Resources provided architectural and engineering services for a new cool roof design on the Hawthorne Federal Building, located at 15000 Aviation Blvd., in Lawndale, California.
The existing built-up roofing system exceeded its useful lifespan and needed to be replaced with a new system that meets or exceeds all specified Cool Roof System guidelines. The existing roof had numerous leaks that has been a recurring problem at the building for over 7 years.
Multiple efforts to patch and repair the existing roof were unsuccessful in correcting the deficiencies. The existing roofing materials contained asbestos materials and removal of this material was incorporated into the demolition.
The scope of services included existing roof demolition, asbestos abatement, and new cool roof of the entire 6th floor, Penthouse, cafeteria, warehouse and childcare roof systems.
