This project entails a comprehensive assessment of the building and systems of Building 7, part of a group of buildings located on the former Alameda Naval Air Station located on McKay Avenue in Alameda, California. The building is currently vacant and has been acquired by the East Bay Regional Park District. Building 7 is a two-story wood framed building that was built approximately 1943. The building was built by the Federal Government and was used to provide office space for various federal agencies, such as the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force (USAF) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). The facility was last occupied by the General Services Administration (GSA).
The assessment included the evaluation of the condition and projected life span of the building envelope, doors, windows, interior finishes, fixtures and furniture. We assessed and identified typical architectural barriers and made recommendations for ADA compliance. The roof was investigation that included an analysis for the condition of the roof, roofing materials, flashing, penetrations of equipment and drainage. Structural systems were analyzed and recommendations were made to address any deficiencies. Mechanical and electrical equipment was evaluated to determine the need for energy improvements and energy efficiency upgrades. Fire/life safety systems were assessed to determine functionality and coverage. Cost estimates were provided for the improvements.
