Interactive Resources, Inc. was retained by SunWize Technologies, Inc. to provide structural engineering services for the anchorage of photovoltaic (PV) arrays to existing framing on several buildings at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 795 Willow Road in Menlo Park, California. Design services began with a site visit to observe existing conditions of the structures, followed by a review of the as-built drawings, and then preparation of structural calculations to verify that the existing framing could support the gravity, wind and seismic loads from the array. We also provided structural calculations and construction documents for each array, anchorage of the inverters and concrete pad, and provided the same for the carport arrays. More than 2,358 modules were installed and the arrays generate 518 kilowatts of power.
