Essential Architecture: GSA, DGS & USPS

Apr 10, 2020

During this challenging time, we are thankful to be hard at work. Many of our clients are designated as essential, and we have two new on-call contracts to announce: with the General Services Administration (GSA) and with the Department of General Services (DGS), both government agencies that we have decades of experience working with, dating back to 1990. And we are in the fourth year of an on-call contract with the United State Postal Service, which we have worked with since the mid-1980s. We are grateful to be able to help these entities maintain the services we need.

IDIQ for Architect/Engineering Services, General Services Administration Region 9, Zone 2 – Northern CA
GSA, America’s biggest landlord, manages architects and engineers to provide design for federal clients needing new workspace. To achieve top-quality design talent, GSA has instituted a Design Excellence Program, which includes a streamlined two-step architect/engineer selection process and the use of private-sector peers to provide feedback to the architect/engineer of record. We were selected through this program to provide A/E services for Region 9, Zone 2 – Northern California for public architecture and various design services for projects in occupied Federally owned or leased office buildings, courthouses, and land ports of entry.

Our design team’s experience includes multiple phases of services, including facility evaluations, forensic investigations, planning studies, historic preservation, tenant improvements, energy efficiency studies, building envelope, roof replacements, conceptual design, contract documents and construction administration for both new facilities and the rehabilitation, and maintenance and repair of existing facilities. Examples include: forensic investigations, program development studies, site surveys and investigations, facility condition assessments, realignment costing studies, tenant improvements, historic preservation, energy efficiency studies, feasibility studies and new construction.

Our relationship with GSA goes back to 1990. This is our seventh contract with GSA throughout the Pacific Rim region.

Architectural Retainer – Coastal California – Department of General Services RESD-PMDB 2019-13
DGS selected our firm for a retainer contract that will be used on an as-needed basis for various projects within State of California Real Estate Services Division – Project Management and Development Branch (RESD-PMDB) buildings that include, but are not limited to conceptual schemes, access compliance (ADA), OSHPD compliance, LEED, ZNE, hazardous materials assessments, MEP upgrades, preliminary plans, working drawings, studies, cost estimates, bidding support and construction administration support.

This is our sixth contract with DGS, including another current contract for forensic A/E services in Northern California. Under this contract, the firm provides forensic investigations of failures and problems with components and systems associated with buildings, sites and structures. And we held a contract with Facilities Management Division (FMD) to provide architectural and engineering services for the Bay and Northern California regions. The FMD is comprised of the former Building and Property Management Branch and the Direct Construction Unit, and is tasked with ensuring the ongoing maintenance and management of several state-owned buildings. This contract includes deferred maintenance projects for these buildings.
