Santa Ana Federal Building Façade Forensic Investigation

Sep 8, 2017

The U.S. GSA retained Interactive Resources to conduct a water infiltration investigation of the underground parking, leased tenant space, plaza and 9th floor curtain wall at the federal building at 34 Civic Center Plaza in Santa Ana. The structure is nine stories over a basement, constructed of cast-in-place concrete with a pre-cast concrete façade. The granite cobble stone plaza and planters leaked into the underground parking and into the detention cells below. The curtain wall surrounding windows of the ninth floor appeared to be disintegrating due to water intrusion. The federal building houses the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Defense Contract Management Agency, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Interactive Resources prepared a waterproofing feasibility study and construction documents for the repair design and preventative maintenance for the building envelope. Scope of work included a detailed inspection of the entire façade, a survey of existing conditions, specifications and drawings for all needed repairs, and cost estimates.
